The Door Supervisors Registration Scheme in Coleraine Borough Council began in 1999. It was the first such scheme in Northern Ireland with the following key components:
Aim to improve the safety and conduct of patrons and staff at licensed premises.
Joint initiative between: Trade PSNI Coleraine Borough Council
and this has resulted in the success of the scheme.
Scheme content:-
- Application.
- Criminal Records Check.
- 6 x Information Seminars over 3 nights.
- Graduation and Badge Presentation.
The scheme has been an immense success as it was welcomed by both businesses and Door Supervisors alike. It is now a requirement of Entertainment Licenses that door supervisors are registered with the scheme.
The ethos has spread and now many other Councils have begun to set up schemes similar to Coleraine. The facts speak for themselves:
- Eight courses have now been successfully completed with more than 300 candidates now registered.
- A refresher training course has been developed with the first 2 groups of refreshers already graduating.
- In fact Coleraine's scheme is now recognised as the model for all other councils to follow and as a result many talks and presentations have been given throughout the province.
